| WHEREAS, The community of Hutto lost one of its most admired | ||
| residents with the passing of David Lynn Oman on January 11, 2015, | ||
| at the age of 73; and | ||
| WHEREAS, "Red" Oman was born on April 13, 1941, to Martin and | ||
| Evelyn Oman; he graduated from Hutto High School in 1959, and later | ||
| served in the 49th Armored Division of the Texas Army National | ||
| Guard; self-employed for the majority of his professional career, | ||
| Mr. Oman ran Red's Drive In Grocery in Hutto for many years before | ||
| owning and operating his own catering company, Captain Red's | ||
| Catering, for the final 25 years of his life; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan was committed to protecting and | ||
| serving his fellow citizens; he was the fire chief for the Hutto | ||
| Volunteer Fire Department for nearly three decades, and he held the | ||
| title of fire marshal for a quarter-century; Mr. Oman was also a | ||
| city councilman and founding member of the Hutto Chamber of | ||
| Commerce, which recognized him for his exceptional contributions to | ||
| the community with the organization's Ken Love Lifetime Achievement | ||
| Award; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Active in a wide range of worthwhile organizations | ||
| in the Hutto area, Mr. Oman was a lifelong member of the Williamson | ||
| County Livestock Association, a charter member and president of | ||
| Round Rock SPJST Lodge No. 187, and a founding member of the local | ||
| 4H/FFA booster club; he further distinguished himself through his | ||
| more than 40 years of service to the Hutto Lions Club, which honored | ||
| him with the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Award; moreover, | ||
| he played an instrumental role in securing funding for Old Settlers | ||
| Park, and he helped establish Hutto's Pony Baseball League; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Oman enjoyed a rewarding marriage with his wife, | ||
| Jo Ann; a devoted father to his two sons, Troy and Shawn, he later | ||
| knew the joy of welcoming two grandsons, Marshall and Thomas, into | ||
| his cherished family; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Although he will be deeply missed, Mr. Oman's kind | ||
| nature, ready laughter, and dedication to his community will | ||
| continue to inspire those who were privileged to share in the | ||
| richness of his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of David Lynn Oman and | ||
| extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, | ||
| Jo Ann Oman; to his sons, Troy and Shawn Oman; to his grandsons, | ||
| Marshall and Thomas Oman; to his sisters and their spouses, Barbara | ||
| Boker and her husband, Donny, and Linda Bruchmiller and her | ||
| husband, Ronnie; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, | ||
| be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns on this day, it do so in memory of David | ||
| Lynn Oman. | ||
