| WHEREAS, The Pioneers Youth Leadership Program is | ||
| contributing immeasurably to the Texas Hill Country and South Texas | ||
| regions by working to develop the community leaders of tomorrow; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, Created to help encourage in high school students | ||
| the desire and potential to effect meaningful change within their | ||
| communities, this notable initiative cultivates positive character | ||
| traits in participants and engages their critical thinking skills | ||
| through training and experience; during the 2014-2015 school year, | ||
| 145 students are taking part in the program, which operates in nine | ||
| school districts across Dimmit, Edwards, Kimble, Mason, Real, | ||
| Travis, and Uvalde Counties; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Pioneers Youth Leadership Program supports | ||
| learning through action, and on January 21 and 22, 2015, these fine | ||
| young Texans and their director, Real County Judge Garry Merritt, | ||
| visited the Capitol for their State Leadership Forum; in addition | ||
| to meeting with elected officials, students attended workshops with | ||
| staff members from the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Department | ||
| of Agriculture, and the Texas Water Development Board to gain a | ||
| greater understanding of public issues of importance to rural | ||
| communities; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Through its efforts to build a more informed and | ||
| involved citizenry, the Pioneers Youth Leadership Program is | ||
| helping to create a brighter and more promising future for the Lone | ||
| Star State; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby honor the Pioneers Youth Leadership Program for | ||
| its work to promote community service and personal growth among | ||
| young Texans and extend to all those affiliated with the group | ||
| sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the program as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
