WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort | ||
those saddened by the passing of Willie Ray Powell Sr. on January 2, | ||
2023, at the age of 77; and | ||
WHEREAS, The son of George Powell and Mae Flower Urdy-Powell, | ||
Willie Powell was born in Taylor on January 2, 1946; he graduated | ||
from Davenport High School in 1964, and later that same year he | ||
joined the U.S. Army, serving a tour of duty in the Vietnam War; | ||
honorably discharged from active service in 1970, he joined the | ||
Army National Guard two years later; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Powell went on to enjoy a successful career as a | ||
mechanic, and he was recognized as one of the most trusted auto | ||
mechanics in the Austin area; he was an expert at rebuilding engines | ||
and transmissions, and he was generous with his extensive knowledge | ||
and trained others on how to properly diagnose, service, and repair | ||
vehicles; he retired in 1990; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Powell shared nearly five decades with his | ||
beloved wife, Elaine, and he was the proud father of five children, | ||
Dani, Davin, Willie, George, and Vincent; over the years, he had the | ||
privilege of seeing his family grow to include two adopted | ||
children, Anjeanette and Brendashai, five grandchildren, and three | ||
great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, Although Willie Powell is deeply missed, those he | ||
leaves behind will forever treasure their memories of his charm and | ||
his bright, infectious smile; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Willie Ray Powell Sr. | ||
and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his | ||
wife, Elaine Powell; to his children, Dani Dukes, Davin Dukes and | ||
his wife, Jennifer, Willie Powell Jr., George Powell and his wife, | ||
Dana, and Vincent Powell; to his adopted children, Anjeanette | ||
Walker and Brendashai Powell; to his grandchildren, Carice Wilson, | ||
Jaylon Dukes, Willie Ray Powell III, Jasmin Dukes, and Makiya | ||
Powell; to his great-grandchildren, Romeo, Bryson, and Matthew; to | ||
his brother, James Powell, and his wife, Liz; to his sisters, Marie | ||
Fuller, Mary Aikens, Dovie Urdy, and Bertha Aikins; and to his many | ||
other relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Willie | ||
Powell. | ||
