| WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and | ||
| meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends | ||
| of Joe Henry Copes of Woodville, who passed away on February 13, | ||
| 2017, at the age of 73; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The son of Beatrice Jackson-Copes and the Reverend | ||
| Charles Copes, Joe Copes was born on September 13, 1943, in the | ||
| small rural community of Dies in Tyler County and grew up with five | ||
| siblings, Maxine, Josephine, Charlene, Wanda, and Herbert; he | ||
| attended Scott High School in nearby Woodville and went on to serve | ||
| his country as a member of the U.S. Army; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A hardworking and dedicated employee, Mr. Copes | ||
| enjoyed a successful career at Keller Industries, and he later took | ||
| a job with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners; he | ||
| spent two decades traveling across the country as a union | ||
| representative before eventually retiring; he was also an active | ||
| member of the NAACP; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Copes took great pride in his 4 children, Gerry, | ||
| Corey, Sheila, and Tanya, and he was further blessed with 13 | ||
| grandchildren, Jason, Sylvia, Lakeidra, Phenomia, Blake, Isaac, | ||
| Mataya, Carter, Darus, Savian, Monica, Veronica, and Vernon, as | ||
| well as 8 great-grandchildren; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Joe Copes will | ||
| remember the way he touched their lives with his wisdom and strength | ||
| of character, and he will forever be remembered with great | ||
| admiration; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Joe Henry Copes and | ||
| extend sincere condolences to his many relatives and friends; and, | ||
| be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Joe Copes. | ||
