| WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to | ||
| a close with the passing of Jimmie Ray Bridges of Amarillo on | ||
| February 22, 2018, at the age of 74; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The son of Elisha and Sara Bridges, Jim Bridges was | ||
| born in Hereford on November 26, 1943, and he was the brother of 12 | ||
| siblings, Les Lloyd, Juanita Faye, Joe Billie, Lois Lucille, Merl, | ||
| Earl, Frank A, Edwin Lee, Donald, Ronald, Betty Ruth, and Linda Kay; | ||
| as a young man, he answered his nation's call to duty and served in | ||
| the United States Army from 1963 to 1966; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Following his military career, Mr. Bridges worked | ||
| for White's Auto Store in Texas City, and after moving to Amarillo, | ||
| he managed the Fountain Terrace Apartments for 25 years; a gifted | ||
| mechanic, he had a passion for building motorcycles and race cars, | ||
| and he later developed a skill for assembling computers; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Bridges was married to Dixie Southworth, and he | ||
| took great pride in their daughter, Shalyn; a faithful member of | ||
| Christian Heritage Church, he was actively involved with children's | ||
| programs and the motorcycle ministry group, and he volunteered at a | ||
| soup kitchen serving the homeless; moreover, he was an ardent | ||
| supporter of military veterans; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share in this treasured | ||
| man's love and friendship will always remember him with great | ||
| tenderness and affection; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jimmie Ray Bridges and | ||
| extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his | ||
| daughter, Shalyn Bridges; to his sister, Betty Ruth Turner; to his | ||
| brothers, Earl Bridges and Ronald Bridges; to his nieces and | ||
| nephews; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jimmie Ray | ||
| Bridges. | ||
