| WHEREAS, Texas PTA president Leslie Boggs of Odessa has | ||
| distinguished herself as a tireless advocate for the young people | ||
| of Texas; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ms. Boggs oversees an organization that has proved | ||
| to be a vital resource for parents, teachers, school | ||
| administrators, and community leaders ever since its founding in | ||
| 1909; now half a million members strong, the organization promotes | ||
| the health, education, and overall well-being of children on almost | ||
| 3,000 campuses in the Lone Star State; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Before assuming the office of Texas PTA Board | ||
| president, Ms. Boggs served in a number of other crucial roles in | ||
| the organization, including those of first vice president, second | ||
| vice president, and treasurer, and she has been active in numerous | ||
| committees; as parent education programming chair, she was | ||
| instrumental in the creation of Party 101--Consequences of Underage | ||
| Drinking, an immensely popular teen alcohol and drug abuse | ||
| prevention initiative; the program reached more than 350,000 people | ||
| during the initial launch and is now part of the official Texas | ||
| driver education training course; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ms. Boggs has also served as president and treasurer | ||
| of New Mexico PTA and as chair of the Nominating and Leadership | ||
| Development Committee of the National PTA; in addition, she has | ||
| given generously of her time and talents to the Ector County Council | ||
| of PTAs, as well as to elementary school PTAs in Albuquerque and | ||
| Odessa; her dedication has been recognized with the Life Membership | ||
| Award and the Extended Service Award from Texas PTA and with the | ||
| Life Achievement Award from the national organization; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A devoted wife and mother, this dynamic woman has | ||
| made PTA the primary focus of her volunteer endeavors, and she | ||
| credits her involvement in PTA with helping her to become "a better | ||
| mom and 'grandmom'"; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Leslie Boggs has contributed significantly to the | ||
| effectiveness of PTA in the Lone Star State, and her outstanding | ||
| efforts in behalf of Texas schoolchildren are indeed deserving of | ||
| commendation; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby commend Leslie Boggs for her service to Texas | ||
| PTA and extend to Ms. Boggs and the other members of the | ||
| organization sincere best wishes for continued success with their | ||
| important work in behalf of the young people of this state; and, be | ||
| it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. Boggs as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
