WHEREAS, Madison Swain achieved great distinction with her | ||
exceptional performance in the 2023 Miss Juneteenth USA Pageant, | ||
which took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 14, | ||
2023; and | ||
WHEREAS, Established in 2020, the National Miss Juneteenth | ||
Scholarship Pageant Program promotes community service, education, | ||
and cultural awareness while celebrating Juneteenth, a holiday | ||
commemorating the end of slavery in the United States; the program | ||
provides African American youth from across the country with the | ||
opportunity to earn scholarship prizes, and the Miss Juneteenth USA | ||
pageant is open to young women ages 15 to 18; and | ||
WHEREAS, Ms. Swain represented Texas at the 2023 Miss | ||
Juneteenth USA Pageant, where she was named first runner-up; she | ||
also took home first place in the talent portion of the contest and | ||
second place for her essay; she was previously crowned | ||
Ms. Juneteenth at the Juneteenth Development Inc. Scholarship Gala | ||
in Galveston County, and over the course of her reign, she has | ||
participated in events such as Galveston's Juneteenth parade, and | ||
she has visited schools and churches to speak with young people; and | ||
WHEREAS, A skilled dancer, Ms. Swain previously served as | ||
colonel of the Stingarette Drill Team at Texas City High School, and | ||
following her graduation, she was recruited by the award-winning | ||
Buccaneers Dance Team at Blinn College in Brenham; she plans to | ||
pursue a career as a dance teacher; and | ||
WHEREAS, Through her participation in the 2023 Miss | ||
Juneteenth USA Pageant, Madison Swain has served as an inspiring | ||
role model and ambassador for the Lone Star State, and it is a | ||
pleasure to honor her for this notable achievement; now, therefore, | ||
be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Madison Swain | ||
on being named the first runner-up at the 2023 Miss Juneteenth USA | ||
Pageant and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued | ||
success; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Ms. Swain as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. | ||
