| WHEREAS, LaVonda Russell has demonstrated a notable | ||
| commitment to public service as financial secretary of the Public | ||
| Interest Law Association at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at | ||
| Texas Southern University during the 2012-2013 school year; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The association helps students of the TMSL focus | ||
| their studies to gain the legal skills necessary to defend | ||
| individual rights, advance justice, and enhance the public good, | ||
| and as financial secretary, Ms. Russell collected and deposited | ||
| funds from dues and fund-raising activities, created | ||
| organizational forms, and maintained the association's financial | ||
| records; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The daughter of Rickie Rodgers and Bridgette and | ||
| Tony Johnson, Ms. Russell is entering her third year at TMSL, where | ||
| she has further distinguished herself as publicity and social chair | ||
| of the Phi Alpha Delta Law fraternity, treasurer of the Sports and | ||
| Entertainment Law Society, member of the National Black Law | ||
| Students Association and Delta Sigma Theta sorority, and a student | ||
| member of the American Bar Association; she is also a participant in | ||
| the Texas Legislative Internship Program during the 83rd Texas | ||
| Legislature, serving in the office of Senator Carlos Uresti; and | ||
| WHEREAS, LaVonda Russell's intelligence, dedication, and | ||
| hard work have greatly benefited the members of the TMSL Public | ||
| Interest Law Association, and as she continues her education, she | ||
| is indeed building a firm foundation for an outstanding career in | ||
| the law; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby commend LaVonda Russell for her service as | ||
| 2012-2013 financial secretary of the TMSL Public Interest Law | ||
| Association and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued | ||
| success and a bright future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. Russell as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
