| WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their | ||
| memories of Guy Wallace Taylor Sr. of Galveston, who died on | ||
| February 7, 2017, at the age of 84; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Guy Taylor was born in Jonah on July 13, 1932, to | ||
| Estelle and Ford Taylor; after graduating from Manor High School in | ||
| 1950, he answered his nation's call to duty and joined the U.S. | ||
| Marine Corps, serving with Able Company, First Battalion of the | ||
| Seventh Marines in Korea, where he rose to squad leader and won the | ||
| Navy Commandant Medal with Combat V for saving the lives of two of | ||
| his comrades; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life, Mr. Taylor moved to | ||
| Houston, where he met and married Joan Beier; the couple shared | ||
| their lives for 58 years, and they were the proud parents of a son, | ||
| Guy Taylor Jr.; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor began his career in oil-field | ||
| exploration, working for National Supply, and he went on to work for | ||
| Grant Oil Tool Company, Tuboscope, and Lamb Industries; later in | ||
| life, he established his own business, Guy Services, Inc.; in 1995, | ||
| he moved to Galveston and purchased and restored a building on Post | ||
| Office Street, the Stork Club; and | ||
| WHEREAS, An engaged citizen, Mr. Taylor was active with the | ||
| Bernardo de Galvez Chapter No. 1 of the Sons of the American | ||
| Revolution, Spindletop International, and the Houston Livestock | ||
| Show and Rodeo; he was a member of the A/1/7 Marine Corps | ||
| Association and a former senior vice commandant of Marine Corps | ||
| League Detachment No. 668, and every evening for many years, he | ||
| played "Taps" on a bugle from the balcony of the Stork Club; in | ||
| 2015, the City of Galveston proclaimed July 23 as Guy Taylor Day, in | ||
| recognition of his patriotism and his loyalty to his fellow | ||
| veterans; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud | ||
| marine, Guy Wallace Taylor lived a rich and purposeful life, and | ||
| although he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the | ||
| hearts of all those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Guy Wallace Taylor | ||
| Sr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to his many relatives and | ||
| friends; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Guy Taylor. | ||
