| WHEREAS, Scouts BSA Troop No. 434 in the Sunnyside community | ||
| of Houston is celebrating the 55th anniversary of its founding in | ||
| 2023; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Troop No. 434 was established in 1968 with the help | ||
| of scoutmaster London Wilson and assistant scoutmasters Robert Bass | ||
| and Marcellus Washington; Mr. Wilson served as scoutmaster until | ||
| 1976 when Lonnie Burrell and Robert Price took over the troop; in | ||
| 1999, Troop No. 1008 transferred its membership to Troop No. 434, | ||
| and that year, Sullivan Thornton Jr. was selected as scoutmaster; | ||
| over the years, the troop has benefited from the generous support of | ||
| Bud's Meat Market and Johnson Funeral Home; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Today, Troop No. 434 is led by scoutmaster Lionel | ||
| Tomlin and assistant scoutmasters Brandon Achane, Arthur Gibbs, and | ||
| Roland Foster, and it has produced 40 Eagle Scouts since 2000; for | ||
| more than 30 years, the troop has enjoyed the sponsorship of | ||
| Blueridge United Methodist Church; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Scouts BSA Troop No. 434 has made a significant | ||
| difference in the lives of countless young Texans while | ||
| contributing to the betterment of the community, and it is indeed a | ||
| pleasure to join in recognizing this momentous milestone in the | ||
| group's rich history; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby commemorate the 55th anniversary of Scouts BSA | ||
| Troop No. 434 and extend to its members and leaders sincere best | ||
| wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the troop as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
