| WHEREAS, Residents of Young County lost an admired civic | ||
| leader with the passing of former county judge Ken Andrews of Graham | ||
| on February 9, 2019, at the age of 80; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The son of Ben and Dorothy Andrews, Ken Andrews was | ||
| born in Young County on July 10, 1938; during his youth, he attained | ||
| the rank of Eagle Scout, and he graduated in 1956 from Graham High | ||
| School; as a student at The University of Texas, he joined the | ||
| Silver Spurs and helped care for Bevo VII; he earned both a | ||
| bachelor's degree and a law degree and became a proud Texas Ex, | ||
| rarely missing a broadcast of a UT sporting event; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In 1965, Mr. Andrews began practicing law in Graham; | ||
| he served as county attorney from 1972 to 1984, and in 1989, he | ||
| stepped in to complete the term of a county judge who resigned; he | ||
| later won election to the position and served for two terms; in | ||
| addition, he was president of the Rotary Club and served on the | ||
| board of Graham Savings & Loan; he advocated for mental health | ||
| resources as chair of Helen Farabee Centers and as a member of the | ||
| board of the Texas Council of Community Centers; moreover, he was a | ||
| member of the Young County Democrats and a deacon and elder at the | ||
| First Presbyterian Church; a farmer and rancher as well as an | ||
| attorney, he never retired; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Andrews shared a rewarding marriage of 47 years | ||
| with his wife, Mary, before her passing; he was the proud father of | ||
| two daughters, Jennifer and Katherine, and he delighted in spending | ||
| time with his treasured grandchildren, as well as members of his | ||
| extended family; over the years, his warm, gracious nature endeared | ||
| him to countless people, and he quietly extended help to many in | ||
| need; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family and his community, Ken | ||
| Andrews made a meaningful difference in the lives of his loved ones | ||
| and fellow citizens alike, and his contributions will be fondly | ||
| remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Ken | ||
| Andrews and extend sincere sympathy to his family and friends; and, | ||
| be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ken | ||
| Andrews. | ||
