| WHEREAS, Karla Garza of VMK Concrete has distinguished | ||
| herself through her professional achievements; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Garza and her husband, Victor, established VMK | ||
| Concrete in 2023, and under their able leadership, the business has | ||
| grown to become a successful ready-mix concrete supplier in the Rio | ||
| Grande Valley; today, VMK companies encompass five enterprises and | ||
| 100 employees; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A pioneering figure in the concrete industry, | ||
| Mrs. Garza was elected to the Texas Aggregates & Concrete | ||
| Association board of directors in 2024, and she has been nominated | ||
| to the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association board, becoming | ||
| the first Hispanic woman to realize those accomplishments; in | ||
| addition, she has served as director of suppliers for the Rio Grande | ||
| Valley Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Garza has been involved in numerous community | ||
| projects, including mentorship programs for young women pursuing | ||
| careers in construction; she has also played an instrumental role | ||
| in establishing the VMK Concrete scholarship initiatives, which | ||
| support students in high school and college; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In recognition of her efforts, Mrs. Garza was named | ||
| the Architecture/Engineering/Construction Woman of the Year at the | ||
| 2024 Luna Awards ceremony hosted by the Regional Hispanic | ||
| Contractors Association; she is a first-generation college | ||
| graduate and an alumna of the Texas A&M University Mays Business | ||
| School; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Karla Garza has set an inspiring example of | ||
| leadership in her field and in her community, and the citizens of | ||
| the Rio Grande Valley are indeed fortunate to count her among their | ||
| fellow residents; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby commend Karla Garza for her professional | ||
| achievements and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued | ||
| success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Mrs. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
