| WHEREAS, A life made rich by meaningful service has drawn to a | ||
| close with the passing of former state representative and retired | ||
| superintendent Eldon Edge, Sr., on November 29, 2012, at the age of | ||
| 86; and | ||
| WHEREAS, First elected to the Texas Legislature in 1984, | ||
| Mr. Edge served three terms as the representative from House | ||
| District 45, which covered Atascosa, Bandera, Frio, Live Oak, | ||
| Medina, and Wilson Counties; he was a member of the Agriculture and | ||
| Livestock Committee throughout his legislative tenure, and he was | ||
| appointed to the budget and oversight subcommittees of that | ||
| committee during the 70th Legislature and of the Public Education | ||
| Committee during the 71st Legislature; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The son of Clyde and Minnie Edge, Eldon Edge was born | ||
| on his family's ranch in Kendalia on March 15, 1926, and spent his | ||
| childhood playing along the Pedernales River; after graduating from | ||
| high school, he answered his country's call to duty and served in | ||
| the United States Marine Corps during World War II; he earned a | ||
| degree in chemistry from Southwest Texas State Teachers College on | ||
| his return; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Edge taught in Hallettsville for a number of | ||
| years while working to obtain his master's degree in school | ||
| administration; he later became the superintendent of several | ||
| school districts, including Wortham, Riesel, Comfort, and Poth | ||
| ISDs; and | ||
| WHEREAS, After his retirement, he remained active in his | ||
| community and was a proud member of the Lions Club; in all his | ||
| endeavors, he enjoyed the love and support of his wife, the former | ||
| Shirley Jansky, and their four sons, Eldon, Darrell, Dana, and | ||
| Duwayne; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Although he will be deeply missed, Eldon Edge leaves | ||
| behind a notable legacy of public service that will long continue to | ||
| inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Eldon | ||
| Edge, Sr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: | ||
| to his sons, Eldon and his wife, Susan, Darrell and his wife, | ||
| Virginia, Dana, and Duwayne and his wife, Delma; to his | ||
| grandchildren, Ingrid Petty and her husband, Jason, Rachel Kiker | ||
| and her husband, Jon, Trista, and James; to his | ||
| great-granddaughters, Valentine, Veronica, Margaret, Carmen, and | ||
| Claudia; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of the | ||
| Honorable Eldon Edge, Sr. | ||
