| WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may | ||
| temper the profound sadness felt by the loved ones of Dr. George | ||
| R. Hugman III of Nacogdoches, who passed away on February 2, 2015, | ||
| at the age of 59; and | ||
| WHEREAS, George Hugman III, affectionately known as "Trey," | ||
| was born on May 17, 1955, to Joyce Plummer Hugman and Dr. George | ||
| Robert Hugman Jr. in Galveston; at a young age, he decided to follow | ||
| in the footsteps of his father, a family physician, and he began | ||
| preparing for that career by earning a bachelor's degree in biology | ||
| from Austin College in 1977; he went on to attend graduate school at | ||
| The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and he | ||
| received his medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine in | ||
| Houston in 1981; while studying at the UT Health Science Center, he | ||
| met the love of his life, Lou Ellen Hackenberry; they exchanged the | ||
| vows of matrimony on December 5, 1981, and became the proud parents | ||
| of two children, Luke and Rachel; and | ||
| WHEREAS, After Dr. Hugman completed his residency in Tulsa, | ||
| Oklahoma, the family moved to Nacogdoches, and he opened his own | ||
| family medical practice in 1986; highlighting his commitment to his | ||
| profession and his community, he was affiliated with the | ||
| Nacogdoches-San Augustine County Medical Society and the Texas | ||
| Medical Association, and he served the Nacogdoches Memorial | ||
| Hospital board of directors as secretary, vice president, and | ||
| president; highly respected for his knowledge and leadership, he | ||
| was invited to the Texas Capitol as House District 11 Doctor of the | ||
| Day during the 83rd Texas Legislature in 2013, and he was appointed | ||
| as the first chief medical officer for Nacogdoches Memorial | ||
| Hospital in October 2014; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Dr. Hugman's patients in Nacogdoches appreciated | ||
| his expertise and his kind bedside manner, and he also served his | ||
| community as a Boy Scout leader and as a devoted soccer dad; among | ||
| family and friends he was known for his adventurous spirit, | ||
| boundless energy, and many interests, which ranged from waterskiing | ||
| to dancing to sailing to crafting delicious margaritas; and | ||
| WHEREAS, While the life of Dr. George Hugman ended far too | ||
| soon, the enthusiasm, compassion, and integrity with which he lived | ||
| will forever inspire all who had the good fortune to know him; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. George | ||
| R. Hugman III and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his | ||
| family: to his wife, Lou Hugman; to his children, Luke Benning | ||
| Hugman and his wife, Brooke, and Rachel Elaine Hugman and her | ||
| partner, Jake Travers; to his mother, Joyce Plummer Hugman; to his | ||
| siblings, James Hugman and his wife, Anne, Christopher Hugman and | ||
| his wife, Lisa, and Elaine Berringer and her husband, John; to his | ||
| nephews and nieces, Michael, Elizabeth, and Jennifer Berringer, and | ||
| Robert, Elissa, Heather, and Claire Hugman; and to his other | ||
| relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. George | ||
| Hugman III. | ||
