R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Gloria Jennings of Rusk is retiring from the
  Cherokeean Herald on February 25, 2015, drawing to a close a notable
  career in the newspaper business that has spanned more than half a
  century; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Rusk in 1935, Mrs. Jennings graduated from
  Rusk High School in 1953 and attended Lon Morris College and Stephen
  F. Austin State College; later in life, she earned a degree from
  Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Missouri; and
         WHEREAS, A journalist for 54 years, Mrs. Jennings was first
  employed by the Rusk Cherokeean, her hometown newspaper, in the
  1960s, and she went on to work for the Jacksonville Daily Progress
  for 13 years; returning to the Cherokeean Herald in 1982, she has
  been a reporter there for more than three decades; and
         WHEREAS, Since 1988, Mrs. Jennings has also been a licensed
  minister for the United Methodist Church, serving pastorates in
  Pierces Chapel, Dialville, and Mount Selman; in addition, she has
  led congregations in Panola County and Cass County, as well as three
  churches in Rusk County--in Church Hill, Oak Hill, and Oakland; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Jennings has further distinguished herself as
  a member of the Rusk City Council for 14 years and as a member of the
  Daughters of the Republic of Texas; and
         WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Jennings has enjoyed the
  love and support of her family, which includes her children John
  David Jennings and his wife, Debbie, and Cynthia Ann McGuinness and
  her husband, John, her grandchildren Benjamin Chad Jarratt, Megan
  Jennings, and Joe Bob Jennings, and her great-grandchildren Austin
  Randall, Hunter Randall, and Mason Holstein; and
         WHEREAS, The dedication, professionalism, and commitment to
  excellence that Gloria Jennings has demonstrated have greatly
  benefited the readers of the Cherokeean Herald, and she may indeed
  reflect with pride on a career well spent as she embarks on the next
  exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Gloria Jennings on her retirement
  from the Cherokeean Herald and extend to her sincere best wishes for
  continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Jennings as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
