WHEREAS, Residents of Corpus Christi are paying tribute to | ||
one of the state's musical legends April 17-18, 2015, at Fiesta de | ||
la Flor: A Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Selena Quintanilla | ||
Perez; and | ||
WHEREAS, Organized by the Quintanilla family and the Corpus | ||
Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau, the festival fittingly | ||
honors Selena by showcasing the community and culture in which she | ||
took such pride; it is intended as an annual event; and | ||
WHEREAS, Among the scheduled performers are some of the most | ||
popular and acclaimed artists on the local and national Latin music | ||
scene, among them Chris Perez, A. B. Quintanilla y Los Kumbia Kings | ||
Allstarz, Los Lobos, Little Joe y la Familia, Los Palominos, Nina | ||
Diaz, Las Fenix, Stefanie Montiel, and the Jay Perez Band; the event | ||
will also include a screening of the hit 1997 film Selena; and | ||
WHEREAS, The year 2015 marks the 20th anniversary of the | ||
tragic and untimely passing of Selena Quintanilla Perez; she will | ||
forever hold a special place in the hearts of fans in Texas and | ||
beyond, and this festival provides a welcome opportunity to | ||
remember the vibrant "Queen of Tejano" and celebrate the joy her | ||
music continues to bring; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby commemorate the 2015 Fiesta de la Flor: A | ||
Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Selena and extend to all those | ||
involved sincere best wishes for a successful and memorable event. | ||
