R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Robin Battershell of the Temple Independent
School District was named the 2016 Superintendent of the Year for
Education Service Center Region 12 by the Texas Association of
School Boards; and
WHEREAS, A native of Robinson, Robin Battershell earned her
bachelor's degree in elementary education at Texas Tech University
and her master's degree in educational psychology at the University
of Houston; she began her career in 1980, first as a third grade
teacher in Houston and Pasadena before becoming a special education
counselor with the Bell County Cooperative for Exceptional
Children; from 1985 to 1990, she worked for Killeen ISD in a variety
of administrative positions, including coordinator of Guidance,
coordinator of Special Programs, and interim director of Curriculum
and Instruction; and
WHEREAS, In 1990, Dr. Battershell began teaching as an
adjunct professor at the University of Mary Hardin–Baylor, and that
same year, she became the executive director of the Greater Fort
Hood Communities in Schools; she earned her Ed.D. in administrative
leadership from Baylor University along the way, and in 1998, she
was appointed superintendent of Salado ISD; she excelled in that
position for 10 years before joining Temple ISD as superintendent
in 2008; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robin Battershell's hard work and commitment to
excellence have made a positive difference in the lives of
countless Texas students for more than 35 years, and her receipt of
this prestigious accolade provides a fitting opportunity to
recognize her outstanding contributions to the Lone Star State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Robin Battershell for being
named the 2016 Superintendent of the Year for Region 12 and extend
to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Battershell as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
