R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A 75th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of
mutual devotion and shared experiences, and Lyle and Coleen
McGuffin of Kerrville celebrated this joyous milestone in their
marriage on November 24, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Their first meeting occurred at a grocery store
owned by Mr. McGuffin when the future Mrs. McGuffin was only 17; the
pair courted through letters and visits before they married in 1935
and went on their honeymoon to Monterrey, Mexico; and
WHEREAS, The McGuffins joined the Church of Christ in 1967
and made a dramatic change in their lives; they were soon able to
leave their jobs and move to Africa, where Mr. McGuffin attended the
Southern Africa Bible College and became a missionary; and
WHEREAS, Now back in Kerrville, where they are valued members
of Riverside Church of Christ, the couple have a host of interests
that include supporting mission work in China and elsewhere and the
progress of the Southern Africa Bible College; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. McGuffin have enjoyed seven and a half
decades of abiding love and affection for one another, and they are
among an exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a
lasting commitment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Lyle and Coleen McGuffin on their
75th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for
continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. McGuffin as an expression of high regard
by the Texas House of Representatives.
