| WHEREAS, In her work as the founder of the Dyslexia School of | ||
| Houston, Tammy Spencer has dedicated herself to providing quality | ||
| service to students with dyslexia; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ms. Spencer is a veteran educator and most recently | ||
| served as an administrator overseeing dyslexia services at the | ||
| Houston Independent School District; she launched the Dyslexia | ||
| School in September 2020, at a time when schools were turning to | ||
| online instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic, which further | ||
| exacerbated the challenges faced by many students with learning | ||
| disabilities; initially, she operated the school from a garage | ||
| apartment at her home; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Dyslexia School relocated to a nearby building | ||
| in West University Place, and today, enrollment has grown to | ||
| include more than 50 students; in addition to dyslexia screening | ||
| and assessment, the school offers half-day sessions for students | ||
| ages 4 to 15 to supplement their learning; the school aims to | ||
| provide a strong foundation for reading in a nurturing environment, | ||
| and each student receives an individual education plan that allows | ||
| them to learn at their own pace; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Through her leadership, expertise, and commitment | ||
| to excellence, Tammy Spencer has made a meaningful difference in | ||
| the lives of countless young Texans with dyslexia, and she is indeed | ||
| deserving of recognition for her accomplishments in this crucial | ||
| endeavor; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby honor Tammy Spencer for her accomplishments as | ||
| the founder of the Dyslexia School of Houston and extend to her | ||
| sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. Spencer as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
