| WHEREAS, The citizens of San Antonio lost one of their most | ||
| admired community leaders with the death of Florence Alcoser on | ||
| April 21, 2010, at the age of 70; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Florence Alcoser was born on the city's south side | ||
| on May 20, 1939, and as a child helped out at her father's | ||
| neighborhood grocery store; she graduated from Harlandale High | ||
| School in 1958 and was later joined in matrimony to Richard Alcoser; | ||
| over the years, the couple shared in the joy of welcoming 3 sons, 10 | ||
| grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren into their treasured | ||
| family; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Alamo Heights, Mrs. Alcoser | ||
| owned property in Government Hill and was president of the | ||
| Government Hill Alliance Neighborhood Association for 10 years; | ||
| dedicated to conservation and historic preservation, she played an | ||
| instrumental role in acquiring historic district designation for | ||
| the Government Hill area, and she was an active member of numerous | ||
| civic organizations, including the San Antonio Conservation | ||
| Society, the steering committee for the city's Strategic Historic | ||
| Preservation Plan, the Fort Sam Houston Community Development | ||
| Advisory Board, and Keep San Antonio Beautiful; she also served on | ||
| the board of directors of Select Employees Federal Credit Union; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, Known for her leadership and determination as well | ||
| as for her fun-loving personality, Florence Alcoser gave freely of | ||
| her time and talents to better her community, and she leaves behind | ||
| a record of accomplishments that will long resonate in the city she | ||
| loved to call home; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Florence Alcoser and | ||
| extend heartfelt condolences to the members of her family: to her | ||
| husband, Richard Alcoser, Sr.; to her sons, Richard, Louis, and | ||
| Toby; to her siblings, Tom Calderon, Corinne Mendoza, and Linda | ||
| Santos; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Florence | ||
| Alcoser. | ||
