| WHEREAS, Chief Lonnie Bernhardt retired from the Southside | ||
| Place Police Department on January 18, 2013, drawing to a close an | ||
| outstanding career in public safety; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Chief Bernhardt began his tenure in law enforcement | ||
| in 1984, when he was hired by the Harris County Sheriff's Department | ||
| as a reserve deputy; he went on to serve with the Jersey Village | ||
| Police Department and joined the police force in Southside Place in | ||
| 1989; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Initially a part-time warrant officer, he took a | ||
| full-time assignment with the department in 1994 and subsequently | ||
| distinguished himself as a patrol officer and sergeant before he | ||
| was named chief of police; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Chief Bernhardt | ||
| also compiled 20 years of exemplary service with the Houston Fire | ||
| Department; in retirement, he looks forward to spending time with | ||
| his 6 children and 10 grandchildren; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Lonnie Bernhardt's dedication, professionalism, and | ||
| expertise have greatly benefited his fellow citizens, and he may | ||
| indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on | ||
| the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby honor Chief Lonnie Bernhardt on his retirement | ||
| from the Southside Place Police Department and extend to him | ||
| sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Chief Bernhardt as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
