| WHEREAS, State District Court Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos has | ||
| been nominated for a seat on the United States District Court for | ||
| the Southern District of Texas; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Since 2001, Judge Ramos has served as judge of the | ||
| 347th District Court of Nueces County; she presides over the | ||
| Domestic Violence Court, and she previously served as the local | ||
| administrative judge for the Nueces County District Courts; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This distinguished jurist has been regularly ranked | ||
| as the best district judge by members of the Corpus Christi Bar | ||
| Association; she is a member of the Texas Bar Foundation, the Nueces | ||
| County Council of Judges, and the Nueces County Juvenile Board, and | ||
| she serves as the Corpus Christi Bar Association's liaison to the | ||
| Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A native of Port Lavaca, Judge Ramos earned her | ||
| bachelor's degree in education summa cum laude from Texas State | ||
| University; she graduated with honors from The University of Texas | ||
| School of Law in 1991 and also graduated from the Texas College for | ||
| Judicial Studies; after practicing for six years in the civil | ||
| litigation section of Meredith, Donnell & Abernethy, she entered | ||
| public service as a municipal court judge in Corpus Christi; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Judge Ramos has demonstrated a deep commitment to | ||
| her community and to social justice; she has chaired the National | ||
| Conference for Community and Justice, and she has served as vice | ||
| president of the Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse--Coastal Bend; | ||
| moreover, she has mentored students at Driscoll Middle School and | ||
| is a graduate of Leadership Corpus Christi, Class 27; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Highly regarded for her dedication, experience, and | ||
| brilliant legal mind, Judge Ramos has established herself as | ||
| eminently qualified to serve as a federal judge; now, therefore, be | ||
| it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Nelva Gonzales Ramos | ||
| on her nomination to the United States District Court for the | ||
| Southern District of Texas and extend to her sincere best wishes for | ||
| continued success in her endeavors; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Judge Ramos as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
