WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to | ||
a close with the passing of U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) | ||
Lloyd Coley of Belton on August 28, 2023, at the age of 69; and | ||
WHEREAS, The son of William E. Coley Sr. and Laura Lee Coley, | ||
Lloyd Coley was born in Richmond, Virginia, on June 19, 1954; he | ||
grew up with the companionship of eight siblings, Barbara, Essie, | ||
William, Spencer, Sylvia, Gwendolyn, Sheila, and Lavette; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Coley enlisted in the United States Army in July | ||
1972, and his distinguished military career ultimately spanned | ||
three decades; he rose to the rank of command sergeant major and was | ||
awarded the Legion of Merit in recognition of his exemplary service | ||
to his nation; and | ||
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Coley enjoyed the love and | ||
support of his wife, Brenda, with whom he shared a rewarding | ||
marriage of 47 years; he was the devoted father of two children, | ||
Ebonie and Justin, and he also experienced the joy of welcoming two | ||
grandchildren into his family; a man of faith who was guided by a | ||
strong moral compass, he attended Cornerstone Baptist Church, where | ||
he was ordained as a deacon and was unanimously selected to serve as | ||
deacon chairman; and | ||
WHEREAS, Although Lloyd Coley is deeply missed, memories of | ||
his integrity, his strength of character, and his devotion to his | ||
family and his country remain to comfort and inspire those he leaves | ||
behind; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of | ||
U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Lloyd Coley and extend | ||
deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, | ||
Brenda Coley; to his daughter, Ebonie Bain, and her husband, Nigel; | ||
to his son, Justin "Jay" Coley, and his wife, Kristy; to his | ||
grandsons, Justin and Jason; to his brothers, William E. Coley Jr. | ||
and his wife, Brenda, and Spencer Coley and his wife, Patricia; to | ||
his sisters, Sylvia Coley, Gwendolyn Coley, Sheila Green and her | ||
husband, Irvin, and Lavette Branch; and to his other relatives and | ||
many friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lloyd | ||
Coley. | ||
