| WHEREAS, Paris High School students have celebrated the | ||
| chartering of the Benjamin Clark Society of the Children of the | ||
| American Revolution with a ceremony that included the installation | ||
| of chapter officers; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Children of the American Revolution was founded | ||
| on April 5, 1895, by Harriet Lothrop, an author and member of the | ||
| Daughters of the American Revolution; established to promote | ||
| patriotic values and a love of country among America's youth, | ||
| C.A.R. is recognized today as the oldest and largest patriotic | ||
| organization for young people in the nation; membership is open to | ||
| anyone under the age of 21 who is a lineal descendent of an | ||
| individual who rendered material aid to the cause of American | ||
| independence; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Paris chapter of the organization was named in | ||
| honor of Revolutionary War veteran Benjamin Clark, a North Carolina | ||
| native who was born in 1758; after fighting in the war, Mr. Clark | ||
| lived in Tennessee and in the Arkansas Territory before moving to | ||
| what is now Red River County; he ultimately settled in Clarksville | ||
| and resided there until his death in 1838; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Those elected to lead the Benjamin Clark Society as | ||
| its first officers are Will Domengeaux, president, Trey Kraft, vice | ||
| president, Baelye Grissom, recording secretary, and Jack Kraft, | ||
| chaplain; history teachers Cheryl Brown and Terry Davis have | ||
| provided generous support and guidance as the group's sponsors; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Benjamin Clark Society of the Children of the | ||
| American Revolution is dedicated to remembering and upholding the | ||
| founding ideals of our nation, and it is indeed worthy of | ||
| recognition; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby commemorate the chartering of the Benjamin Clark | ||
| Society of the Children of the American Revolution at Paris High | ||
| School and extend to its officers and sponsors sincere best wishes | ||
| for the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
