| WHEREAS, Dr. Marvin E. Robinson, chair emeritus of the | ||
| Dallas Black Dance Theatre Board of Directors, is being honored by | ||
| that notable organization on February 17, 2013; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Dr. Robinson served as chair of the board from 1994 | ||
| to 2011, and during that time, he was instrumental in the growth and | ||
| success of DBDT; now in its 36th season, DBDT is based in the Dallas | ||
| Arts District at the AT&T Arts Center's Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre | ||
| and its five performing companies tour the country and the world; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, A graduate of Southern University and the Howard | ||
| University School of Law, Dr. Robinson has excelled in a number of | ||
| fields; he helped develop a business magnet high school in Dallas in | ||
| the 1970s and served as its first director, and later at the Xerox | ||
| Corporation, he was a national manager and assistant to the | ||
| president of community affairs; his achievements with the company | ||
| include the creation of a community involvement program that | ||
| established Xerox as a model corporate citizen in Dallas; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Dr. Robinson went on to pursue entrepreneurship as | ||
| the owner and operator of a Burger King franchise from 1985 to 1988; | ||
| he subsequently accepted a position as president of Accommodations, | ||
| Inc., a concessions management company, and since 1995, he has been | ||
| the sole owner of the business; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Along the way, Dr. Robinson has shared his time and | ||
| resources with numerous groups, among them the Dallas Park and | ||
| Recreation Department, the Salvation Army, the YMCA, the NAACP, the | ||
| Rainbow PUSH Coalition, and the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce, | ||
| which he served as president; he has further distinguished himself | ||
| as a dedicated patron of the arts and has served as a member of the | ||
| board of the AT&T Performing Arts Center; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This accomplished leader has been recognized with | ||
| many accolades through the years; he is the recipient of the UNCF | ||
| Meritorious Service Award, the Dallas Historical Society's Award | ||
| for Excellence in Community Service, and the Business Council for | ||
| the Arts Obelisk Award for Arts Leadership, to name but a few; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Through his expertise and commitment, Marvin | ||
| Robinson has contributed greatly to the exceptional work of the | ||
| Dallas Black Dance Theatre, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring | ||
| him for his outstanding involvement; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby honor Dr. Marvin E. Robinson for his efforts in | ||
| behalf of the Dallas Black Dance Theatre and extend to him sincere | ||
| best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Dr. Robinson as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
