| WHEREAS, Kim Ogg was sworn in as Harris County district | ||
| attorney on New Year's Day, 2017, and this occasion provides a | ||
| welcome opportunity to celebrate her many outstanding achievements | ||
| over the course of an already distinguished career; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Ms. Ogg earned a bachelor's | ||
| degree in journalism from The University of Texas at Austin in 1981 | ||
| and a law degree from South Texas College of Law in 1986; early in | ||
| her career, she served as a chief felony prosecutor in the Harris | ||
| County District Attorney's Office, and in 1994, she became the | ||
| first director of the Mayor's Anti-Gang Task Force, where she | ||
| played a vital role in reducing gang violence in Houston by 40 | ||
| percent; from 1999 until 2006, Ms. Ogg served as executive director | ||
| of Crime Stoppers of Houston, a leading anonymous crime-tip hotline | ||
| and reward program; she went on to work in private practice, first | ||
| with McFall, Breitbeil & Shults and then with the Ogg Law Firm; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has garnered a number of | ||
| prestigious accolades over the years, including a national award | ||
| from the Foundation for Improvement of Justice, a commendation from | ||
| the Houston Police Department, the Steve Chaney Distinguished | ||
| Service Award from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Crime | ||
| Victim Clearinghouse, the Allied Professional Award from the | ||
| Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime, and the Public | ||
| Service Award from the South Texas College of Law; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Ogg has enjoyed the love | ||
| and support of her partner of 32 years, Olivia Jordan, and their | ||
| son, Jack; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Through her professionalism, skill, and commitment | ||
| to justice, Kim Ogg has greatly benefited the people of Harris | ||
| County, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her myriad | ||
| accomplishments as she takes on the challenges and opportunities of | ||
| her new position; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby congratulate Kim Ogg on her election as Harris | ||
| County district attorney and extend to her sincere best wishes for | ||
| continued success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. Ogg as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
