| WHEREAS, Preston Edwards is retiring from the Garland City | ||
| Council in the spring of 2013, having served with distinction as the | ||
| District 3 representative for three consecutive terms; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Edwards moved to Garland from South Texas as a | ||
| youth nearly half a century ago, and he has since established | ||
| himself as a member of Garland's business community; over the | ||
| years, he has repeatedly demonstrated his dedication to the city | ||
| where he met his wife, Shirley, and where the couple raised their | ||
| two children, Sherri and Kevin; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has served on the Garland City | ||
| Council since 2007, and during his tenure, he has held the offices | ||
| of both mayor pro tem and deputy mayor pro tem; Mr. Edwards has also | ||
| rendered significant service to Garland as a member of various | ||
| boards and special committees, including the 1997 Bond Study | ||
| Committee, the South Garland Plan Implementation Committee, the | ||
| Housing Standards Board, the South Garland TIF Board, and the | ||
| Chapter 32.9 Blue Ribbon Committee; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In his coming retirement, Mr. Edwards looks forward | ||
| to spending more time with his family and friends, as well as to | ||
| continuing his involvement in church activities and enjoying his | ||
| two favored pastimes, woodworking and fishing; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Preston Edwards has served the citizens of Garland | ||
| with the utmost ability and devotion, and he may indeed reflect on | ||
| his accomplishments with pride as he looks forward to the next | ||
| exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby congratulate Preston Edwards on the occasion of | ||
| his retirement from the Garland City Council and extend to him | ||
| sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Mr. Edwards as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
