| WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the | ||
| passing of Margaret Bingham Galloway, a longtime resident of | ||
| Arlington and Grand Prairie, on December 20, 2009, at the age of 93; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, The daughter of George Daniel Bingham and Ellie | ||
| Bingham, the former Margaret Bingham was born in Mayfield, | ||
| Kentucky, on November 10, 1916; her father served as the publisher | ||
| of the Mayfield Messenger, and at a young age, she followed in his | ||
| footsteps and joined the newspaper business, becoming the women's | ||
| editor of that publication; she attended the University of | ||
| Kentucky, and she later graduated from Murray State University; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Galloway moved to the Lone Star State in the | ||
| 1950s, and over the course of a career that spanned more than five | ||
| decades, she served as a women's editor at the Arlington Citizen | ||
| Journal and as a writer and editor for the Dallas Morning News and | ||
| the Grand Prairie Daily News; she chronicled the daily lives of her | ||
| fellow residents and was an active presence at local events, and her | ||
| coverage of important issues resulted in positive changes in the | ||
| community, including the opening of a battered women's shelter in | ||
| Arlington; moreover, she published a book, Ancestors and Appetites, | ||
| as well as the monthly magazine The Arlington Woman; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Galloway enjoyed the love and support of her | ||
| husband, Parker Randolph Galloway, and the couple raised three | ||
| children, Randy, Ellen, and the late Greg Galloway, and shared 40 | ||
| years together until his passing in 1982; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Known for the passion and dedication she brought to | ||
| her work, Margaret Galloway inspired countless individuals, and she | ||
| will long be remembered with great admiration by all those who were | ||
| privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Margaret Bingham | ||
| Galloway and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: | ||
| to her son, Randy Galloway and his wife, Janeen; to her daughter, | ||
| Ellen Beal and her husband, Mark; to her granddaughters, Gina Wood | ||
| and her husband, Russell, and Jennifer Giddens and her husband, | ||
| Chad; to her great-grandchildren, Quincy, Beau, Georgia, and Sadie; | ||
| to her sister, Virginia Garrott and her husband, Dan; to her | ||
| nephews, Lee and Ben Garrott and Daniel Bingham III; and to her | ||
| other relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Margaret | ||
| Bingham Galloway. | ||
