WHEREAS, Elizabeth Chu Richter has been inducted into the | ||
Corpus Christi Business Hall of Fame by Junior Achievement of South | ||
Texas; and | ||
WHEREAS, A worldwide, nonprofit organization, Junior | ||
Achievement is committed to educating young people about free | ||
enterprise and entrepreneurship and fostering financial literacy; | ||
the organization's Corpus Christi Business Hall of Fame recognizes | ||
local individuals who have achieved excellence in their field and | ||
who have demonstrated vision and innovation, inspiring leadership, | ||
and community mindedness; and | ||
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Chu Richter is the CEO of Richter | ||
Architects, an award-winning architectural design and planning | ||
firm that she co-owns with her husband, David Richter; she is | ||
particularly noted for the inventive community-focused and | ||
family-focused design vision that she brings to many civic and | ||
public building projects; among her commissions is the Brooks | ||
County Safety Rest Area, which earned one of 13 Honor Awards for | ||
architecture from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in | ||
1999; the rest stop shared that distinction with an art museum in | ||
Helsinki, Finland, and the headquarters of the World Bank, in | ||
Washington, D.C.; she has also joined with her husband in creating a | ||
series of two-minute radio spots called "The Shape of Texas," which | ||
has served to increase public awareness and understanding of | ||
architecture and its possibilities; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born in Nanjing, China, Ms. Richter attended schools | ||
in Hong Kong before moving to Dallas with her family at the age of | ||
13; she graduated from The University of Texas with a bachelor's | ||
degree in architecture in 1974; after college, she balanced raising | ||
her three children with working part-time as an architect until | ||
1989, when she joined Richter Architects full-time; certified as a | ||
green builder through the Leadership in Energy and Environmental | ||
Design program with the U.S. Green Building Council, she is the | ||
recipient of a 2001 Young Architect Award from the AIA, and in 2005 | ||
she was elected to the AIA College of Fellows, one of the highest | ||
honors that the organization can bestow on a member; and | ||
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Chu Richter has made an impressive | ||
contribution to the built environment of South Texas, and through | ||
her work she has touched the lives of many fellow citizens; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Elizabeth Chu | ||
Richter on her induction into the Corpus Christi Business Hall of | ||
Fame and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; | ||
and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Ms. Richter as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives. | ||
