R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived remain to comfort the
  family and friends of Edgar Howard Perry III of Austin, who passed
  away on June 3, 2017, at the age of 86; and
         WHEREAS, Born to Julia Perry and Edgar Perry Jr. on July 18,
  1930, in Austin, Edgar Perry III grew up with the companionship of
  his sister, George Anne; after graduating from the Culver Military
  Academy in Indiana, he continued his education at The University of
  Texas at Austin, and he went on to pursue a number of business
  ventures in manufacturing, oil and gas, and real estate; and
         WHEREAS, An engaged civic leader, Mr. Perry served on the
  Austin City Council from 1959 to 1962, and during his second term,
  he became the youngest mayor pro tem in the country; he further
  contributed to his community as president of the Travis County
  Child Welfare Board and as a member of the boards of Goodwill, the
  YMCA, the Better Business Bureau, and the Buckner Children's Home;
  in recognition of his outstanding work in behalf of his fellow
  residents, he received the Community Star Award from the Travis
  County Sheriff's Office in 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Perry shared 51 years of marriage with his
  loving wife, Linda, and he was the proud father of four children,
  Sheri, Chris, Ryan, and Kim; with the passing years, he watched his
  family grow to include seven grandchildren, Anthony, Cassie, Layne,
  Kate, Cole, Ella, and Julena, and a great-granddaughter, Lilli; and
         WHEREAS, Sustained by a deep faith, Mr. Perry served as a
  Bible teacher and deacon at several area Baptist churches, and he
  was a charter member of both Highland Park Baptist Church and Austin
  Baptist Church; in his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and playing
  tennis, golf, and racquetball; and
         WHEREAS, Although Edgar Perry will be greatly missed, those
  who held him dear will forever remember the warmth, kindness, and
  humor he brought into their lives as well as his devoted efforts to
  benefit his hometown; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
  of Edgar Howard Perry III and extend heartfelt sympathy to his
  relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Edgar
  Perry.
