WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the | ||
passing of Mary Evelyn McKinney of San Angelo on February 7, 2023, | ||
at the age of 93; and | ||
WHEREAS, The daughter of Judge S. E. Stout Jr. and Mary Emma | ||
Garlitz Stout, the former Evelyn Stout was born in Eden on | ||
December 31, 1929; she grew up with five siblings, Seth, Billy, | ||
Joyce, John, and Butch, and graduated from Reagan County High | ||
School; early in 1947, she went on her first date with Robert | ||
Leonadis "R. L." McKinney Jr.; they danced at the Melody Club in San | ||
Angelo, and they became partners forever with their marriage on | ||
June 14 of that year; whenever they jitterbugged, other dancers | ||
would clear the floor to watch them; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mrs. McKinney devoted herself to raising her three | ||
treasured children, Pete, Cheryl, and Lorri; eventually, she was | ||
blessed with six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two | ||
great-great-grandchildren, and she embraced the role of "Nanny" to | ||
other children as well; she adored annual vacations to Ruidoso, New | ||
Mexico, with her family and friends; and | ||
WHEREAS, A woman of faith, Mrs. McKinney was a valued member | ||
of First Methodist Church in Big Lake and then attended Glen Meadows | ||
Baptist Church in San Angelo; she knew a host of old hymns and | ||
joyfully lifted her voice in song; in addition, she was an avid | ||
gardener, bird-watcher, and golfer; Big Lake Golf Course named an | ||
annual tournament in honor of her and a fellow enthusiast; | ||
Mrs. McKinney and her husband shared a fulfilling relationship of | ||
64 years until his passing in 2011; until the end of her days, she | ||
loved to dance, and she was affectionately nicknamed "Twinkle Toes" | ||
by the staff at Lyndale San Angelo Senior Living; and | ||
WHEREAS, Although Evelyn McKinney is greatly missed, she has | ||
left her family and friends with a wealth of wonderful memories, and | ||
she will forever hold a special place in their hearts; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mary Evelyn McKinney | ||
and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her | ||
children, R. L. "Pete" McKinney and his wife, Patrice, Cheryl | ||
deCordova and her husband, Aubrey, and Lorri Jenkins and her | ||
husband, Mike; to her grandchildren, Rachel Beaver and her husband, | ||
Jonathan, Leonadis McKinney and his wife, Leigh, Scott Jenkins, | ||
Kayla Neatherlin and her husband, Blake, Clay deCordova and his | ||
wife, Shelia, and Emily deCordova; to her great-grandchildren, | ||
Joshua Beaver, Christopher Beaver, Keira Neatherlin, Jace | ||
Neatherlin, Emeline McKinney, Taylor Grassman and her husband, | ||
Chase, and Matthew deCordova and his wife Katelyn; to her | ||
great-great-grandchildren, Cooper Grassman and Adaline deCordova; | ||
to her brother, Butch Stout, and his wife, Sharon; and to her many | ||
other relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for her family, and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Evelyn | ||
McKinney. | ||
