| WHEREAS, Richard Sanders will retire as Henderson County | ||
| judge on December 31, 2018, drawing to a close eight years of | ||
| outstanding service to the citizens of the county; and | ||
| WHEREAS, First elected in 2010, Judge Sanders has served two | ||
| terms as presiding officer of the commissioners court, and during | ||
| his exemplary tenure, he and his colleagues have managed the myriad | ||
| responsibilities of county government without raising the tax rate; | ||
| other accomplishments during his time as judge include entering | ||
| into contracts to keep the county's energy costs low and overseeing | ||
| the move of several county offices to the courthouse annex; he also | ||
| played a leading role in developing a policy for the care of | ||
| patients with mental disabilities at the local hospital; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Before entering public office, Mr. Sanders gained | ||
| valuable expertise during his 20-year career as a home builder and | ||
| real estate developer; his deep knowledge of the county, its | ||
| citizens, and their needs was also greatly enhanced by his six years | ||
| as East Texas regional director for U.S. Representative Jeb | ||
| Hensarling; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Sanders has enjoyed the | ||
| love and support of his wife, Cathy, and the other members of his | ||
| family; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The dedication, leadership, and integrity | ||
| demonstrated by Richard Sanders have greatly benefited the | ||
| residents of Henderson County and earned him the respect and | ||
| admiration of his peers, and as he enters into the remaining months | ||
| of his final term, he may indeed reflect with pride on his many | ||
| achievements as the county's chief executive officer; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Richard | ||
| Sanders on his retirement as Henderson County judge and extend to | ||
| him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Judge Sanders as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
