| WHEREAS, Joseph C. Walsh, Jr., retired as minister of Laurel | ||
| Street Church of Christ in San Antonio, concluding a career in the | ||
| pulpit that spanned more than four decades; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Born in Kansas City, Kansas, to Joseph and Opal | ||
| Walsh, Joseph Walsh was baptized at Revere Street Church of Christ | ||
| in San Francisco; he went on to become a gospel minister and to | ||
| serve at churches throughout the country, including West Adams | ||
| Church of Christ and Eastside Church of Christ in Los Angeles, | ||
| Southside Church of Christ in Tucson, and Coconut Grove Church of | ||
| Christ in Miami; in 1999, he was named to lead Laurel Street Church | ||
| of Christ, where he has put in place a 10-year plan for church | ||
| growth and property development that includes a bilingual ministry, | ||
| a successful youth program, and an annual health fair; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Brother Walsh is dedicated to community outreach and | ||
| has been involved in Campaign for Christ and Head Start, as well as | ||
| a prison and a Spanish ministry, among others; in addition, he has | ||
| shared his faith with the citizens of Guyana and of numerous | ||
| Caribbean countries; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Brother Walsh enjoys the | ||
| love and support of his wife, the former Wilma D. Thompson, with | ||
| whom he has shared more than half a century, and he is the proud | ||
| father of four children; and | ||
| WHEREAS, An inspiring and devoted leader, Brother Joseph | ||
| Walsh contributed significantly to the growth and prosperity of | ||
| Laurel Street Church of Christ, and his legacy will continue to | ||
| resonate within this house of worship for many years to come; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby congratulate Joseph C. Walsh, Jr., on his | ||
| retirement from the ministry and extend to him sincere best wishes | ||
| for continued happiness; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Brother Walsh as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
