R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Raymond A. Basye, Sr., has been named a Senior Saint
  of Wisdom by St. Luke "Community" United Methodist Church of
  Dallas, and this esteemed Texan is indeed a source of inspiration to
  many; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1913, Raymond Basye lived most of his life in
  St. Louis, Missouri, before moving to Dallas several years ago; he
  served his country in the United States military, rising to the rank
  of staff sergeant in the army, and spent four decades as a postal
  worker, becoming one of the first African American postal
  supervisors in St. Louis; he also distinguished himself as an
  entrepreneur in sales and merchandising, and his son carries on the
  family business today; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Basye loves to tell stories about his
  experiences in Germany during World War II and his subsequent
  return to the United States, as well as about his youth in the
  1920s, including his memory of riding the train to Washington,
  D.C., and seeing Herbert Hoover sworn in as president; he returned
  to the nation's capital in 2012, when he was honored along with
  about 40 other North Texas veterans with a two-day trip to
  Washington, paid for as part of a veterans appreciation effort; and
         WHEREAS, Raymond Basye has witnessed a panorama of historic
  change over the course of nearly a century, and it is a pleasure to
  join in recognizing him on a life well lived; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Raymond A. Basye, Sr., on his
  selection as a Senior Saint of Wisdom by St. Luke "Community"
  United Methodist Church and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Basye as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
