R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at
  Texas A&M University has honored Horace F. McQueen of Grapeland
  with a 2012 Outstanding Alumni Award; and
         WHEREAS, Known as the voice of Texas agriculture for 36
  years, Horace McQueen is best recognized as the longtime host of the
  Farm & Ranch News program, which he also owned and produced; in his
  daily morning show, Mr. McQueen shared information on production
  practices and helped educate consumers about the benefits of
  farm-fresh foods; the program began in West Texas and, in the early
  1970s, moved to East Texas, where it aired for nearly three decades
  and gave rise to his counterpart radio show; countless Texans
  fondly recall Mr. McQueen's distinctive style of reporting as a
  central part of rural life; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to his broadcasting career, Mr. McQueen
  has contributed to a variety of magazines, such as East Texas Farm &
  Ranch News, Farm & Ranch Magazine, and National Future Farmer;
  active in his community, he has served as a director of Heritage
  Land Bank, the Sabine River Authority, City National Bank, and the
  Oak Brook Health Care Center and has been a member of the Build East
  Texas executive committee; he is also a life member and annual donor
  to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, and he and his wife, Carole,
  continue to operate their cattle and timber ranch, Queensdale
  Farms; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. McQueen earned his bachelor's degree in
  agricultural journalism from Texas A&M University in 1960, and
  today he is a proud Aggie and supporter of TAMU programs,
  particularly the research center in Overton; he has served on the
  College of Agriculture and Life Sciences development council and
  has served as president of the Houston County and Lubbock A&M Clubs;
  with his wife, he established the Carole and Horace McQueen '60
  Endowed Scholarship to provide funding for agricultural journalism
  and communications students; and
         WHEREAS, In recognition of his impressive contributions to
  farming and ranching, Mr. McQueen was named Man of the Year in Texas
  Agriculture and Farm Broadcaster of the Year and has received
  numerous Texas County Agent awards and Texas Forest Service awards,
  as well as countless honors from 4-H and FFA clubs throughout East
  Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Horace McQueen has made a lasting impression on the
  agricultural communities of East Texas over his many years of
  service, and he has been a tireless advocate for research to benefit
  future generations of farmers; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Horace F. McQueen on his receipt of
  a 2012 Outstanding Alumni Award from the College of Agriculture and
  Life Sciences at Texas A&M University and extend to him sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. McQueen as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
