| WHEREAS, College Park Center at The University of Texas at | ||
| Arlington opened in February 2012, and this outstanding facility is | ||
| indeed a welcome addition to the city; and | ||
| WHEREAS, College Park Center is the new home of the UTA men's | ||
| and women's basketball teams and the volleyball team, and the | ||
| 7,000-seat arena in downtown Arlington hosts a range of other | ||
| events as well, including concerts, speaking engagements, and | ||
| graduation ceremonies; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The center is the focal point of the College Park | ||
| District, which incorporates housing for 500 students, an | ||
| environmentally sustainable park, a parking garage, and retail and | ||
| office space; in addition to its innovative design, the buildings | ||
| in the 20-acre development maximize energy efficiency by employing | ||
| the latest innovations in green technology; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The College Park District was brought to fruition | ||
| through the shared vision and dedicated efforts of the university, | ||
| the City of Arlington, First Baptist Church Arlington, and a number | ||
| of notable organizations and community leaders; working together, | ||
| they have created a truly impressive urban showpiece that is sure to | ||
| be a hub of activity and growth for decades to come; now, therefore, | ||
| be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby commemorate the opening of College Park Center | ||
| at The University of Texas at Arlington and congratulate all those | ||
| involved in the completion of this project for a job well done; and, | ||
| be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the university as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
