WHEREAS, The Vernon College men's rodeo team proved itself | ||
the finest in the country by winning the national championship at | ||
the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming, in June 2010; | ||
and | ||
WHEREAS, The Chaparrals claimed the title with outstanding | ||
performances from each member of the team; saddle bronc rider Kaleb | ||
Asay was the CNFR cochampion and had an excellent score in the | ||
short-go competition; Tyler Willis and Patrick Geipel finished in | ||
the top eight in bull riding, and Casey Harmon, Joel Schlegel, and | ||
Cody Quaney also made important contributions as Vernon amassed | ||
682.5 team points to finish more than 90 points ahead of its closest | ||
competitor; and | ||
WHEREAS, The 2010 victory marked the fourth national rodeo | ||
title for the college and the first since 2003, when the men's and | ||
women's teams were both national champions; under the tutelage of | ||
coach Bobby Scott, Vernon College has developed one of the top rodeo | ||
programs in the U.S., and its achievements are all the more | ||
impressive because the team is often competing against larger | ||
schools; and | ||
WHEREAS, Winning a national championship represents the | ||
culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering | ||
commitment to excellence, and the members of the Vernon College | ||
rodeo team will treasure the memory of this accomplishment for many | ||
years to come; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate the Vernon College Chaparrals | ||
men's rodeo team on winning the 2010 national championship at the | ||
College National Finals Rodeo and extend best wishes to its members | ||
for continued success; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. | ||
