| WHEREAS, Lavona Burgess of the Flower Mound Police Department | ||
| retired as director of support services on November 18, 2022, | ||
| drawing to a close an exemplary tenure with the agency that spanned | ||
| 22 years; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ms. Burgess began her career as an emergency | ||
| communications officer and 9-1-1 operator for the Wise County | ||
| Sheriff's Office in 1994, and she went on to join the Flower Mound | ||
| Police Department on November 4, 2000; over the years, she served as | ||
| a communications officer, training coordinator, records clerk, | ||
| property and evidence analyst, and support services manager; she | ||
| was promoted to director of support services in 2018, and she | ||
| further distinguished herself as a member of the department's | ||
| command staff; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Among her many achievements, Ms. Burgess was | ||
| honored as Communications Officer of the Year in 2002 and as | ||
| Civilian of the Year in 2009; she received her master's degree in | ||
| criminal justice administration from the University of North Texas; | ||
| in addition, she holds advanced telecommunicator certification as | ||
| well as advanced property and technician certification, and she is | ||
| a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police at Boston | ||
| University and the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, Lavona Burgess has played an important role in | ||
| furthering the mission of the Flower Mound Police Department, and | ||
| she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as she | ||
| embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be | ||
| it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby congratulate Lavona Burgess on her retirement | ||
| from the Flower Mound Police Department and extend to her sincere | ||
| best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. Burgess as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
