H.R. No. 2793

R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Eliana Briceno, a member of the McClendon Scholars
Program, has provided valuable support as an intern in the office of
State Representative Dawnna Dukes during the 83rd Regular Session;
and
WHEREAS, Created in 2004, the McClendon Scholars Program,
which is also known as the UTSA Legislative Scholars Program, is a
collaborative initiative between State Representative Ruth Jones
McClendon and The University of Texas at San Antonio Institute for
Law and Public Affairs; the program gives students with an interest
in public policy the opportunity to work as interns at the State
Capitol during legislative sessions; and
WHEREAS, Since joining the office of Representative Dukes,
Ms. Briceno has contributed to the workings of state government
firsthand; in addition to learning more about the legislative
process and the issues facing the citizens of the Lone Star State,
she has gained valuable experience in the field of public service;
and
WHEREAS, Ms. Briceno is majoring in Spanish and sociology and
minoring in legal studies at UTSA; she is active in the Volunteer
Organization Involving Community Education and Services (VOICES),
for which she has organized alternative spring break opportunities
with Habitat for Humanity and coordinated fund-raising and
recruitment efforts; in recognition of her achievements, she has
been included in Who's Who at UTSA and is a recipient of the
Outstanding Latino Student Leadership Award; following her
graduation, she plans to begin the International Studies
Certificate Program at Johns Hopkins University; and
WHEREAS, Performing her duties in the office of
Representative Dukes with skill and dedication, Eliana Briceno has
maintained the tradition of excellence that is emblematic of
McClendon Scholars, and she is indeed deserving of special
recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby commend Eliana Briceno for her service as a
McClendon Scholar in the office of State Representative Dawnna
Dukes and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in
all her endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Briceno as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
