| WHEREAS, April 28, 2013, marked a significant milestone in | ||
| the life of J. D. Coleman, for on that day he celebrated his 85th | ||
| birthday; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The son of Daley Coleman and Gertrude Casmere, | ||
| J. D. Coleman was born in Dallas in 1928; following his graduation | ||
| from Lincoln High School in 1946, he attended Wiley College, and he | ||
| also served his country in the U.S. military; his notable career | ||
| included tenures with the Dallas Independent School District, the | ||
| Old Mill Inn, and American Airlines, where he was employed for more | ||
| than two decades and became the first African American ramp | ||
| supervisor; today, he remains active as a school crossing guard; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Coleman has been married to his loving wife, | ||
| Willie Mae Coleman, since 1996, and he is the father of six | ||
| children, Raysonia, Julia, Arlean, Iba, Keith, and the late Dwight | ||
| Coleman; passionate about the history of his culture and his | ||
| hometown, he gives back to his fellow residents through his work as | ||
| a youth tutor and mentor; he is also active in St. Luke "Community" | ||
| United Methodist Church and the Lincoln--Booker T. Washington High | ||
| School Alumni Association; and | ||
| WHEREAS, J. D. Coleman is a blessing to his friends and loved | ||
| ones, and it is a pleasure to recognize him for eight and a half | ||
| decades of life well lived; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby congratulate J. D. Coleman on his 85th birthday | ||
| and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, | ||
| be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Mr. Coleman as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
