| WHEREAS, Rosalia D. Zuehl of San Antonio passed away on | ||
| August 14, 2014, at the age of 94, drawing to a close a long life | ||
| filled with warm memories and meaningful achievements; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The former Rosalia Dylla was born on May 7, 1920, to | ||
| John and Lucy Dylla in St. Hedwig, a town established by her Polish | ||
| ancestors; she went on to exchange wedding vows with Henry Zuehl and | ||
| shared many happy years of marriage with him before his passing; the | ||
| couple traveled extensively throughout his military career, living | ||
| in locations that spanned Europe and the Pacific, and lovingly | ||
| raised a daughter, Antoniette, and three sons, Henry, Joseph, and | ||
| James; and | ||
| WHEREAS, At her home in Texas, Mrs. Zuehl continued to | ||
| support veterans of the armed forces through her membership in the | ||
| American Legion Auxiliary of H. U. Wood Post 245 in Seguin and in | ||
| the VFW Post 4815 Women's Auxiliary, which she served as a chaplain | ||
| and patriotic instructor; a devout Catholic, she was a congregant | ||
| and founding member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in San Antonio, | ||
| and she benefited St. Lawrence Parish as a volunteer and teacher's | ||
| assistant; she also shared her time as an economics researcher for | ||
| the American Chamber of Commerce Research Association, collecting | ||
| cost-of-living data for the organization through the Greater San | ||
| Antonio Chamber; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Zuehl was a caring and devoted mother who | ||
| watched with joy as her family grew to include grandchildren, many | ||
| of whom have served their country proudly in the military; blessed | ||
| with an array of talents and interests, she excelled at needlework | ||
| and delighted in cooking and baking for her loved ones, often with | ||
| nothing but her sense of taste as inspiration; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This dynamic woman was likewise fond of hunting, | ||
| fishing, and all things related to farm and ranch life, of which she | ||
| had an impressive breadth of knowledge; having come of age during | ||
| the Great Depression, she seldom took anything for granted, and she | ||
| savored simple pleasures like reading letters, tending to her | ||
| garden, and watching the birds that landed in her yard; she had a | ||
| deep love of music and dancing, and she could often be found playing | ||
| her harmonica well into her golden years; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Although she is profoundly missed, Rosalia Zuehl | ||
| leaves behind comforting recollections of her wisdom, generosity, | ||
| compassion, and spirit that will forever be cherished by those who | ||
| held her dear; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Rosalia D. Zuehl and | ||
| extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family: to her | ||
| daughter, Antoniette Rosalia Zuehl Moorhouse; to her sons, Henry J. | ||
| Zuehl and his wife, Sydney, Joseph V. Zuehl and his wife, Marcela, | ||
| and James V. Zuehl and his wife, Darlene; to her 12 grandchildren; | ||
| and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Rosalia | ||
| Zuehl. | ||
