| WHEREAS, Anna Nguyen has rendered years of exceptional | ||
| service to LGBTQIA+ communities across Central Texas; and | ||
| WHEREAS, An avid activist for transgender rights, Anna Nguyen | ||
| is president of PFLAG Austin, the local affiliate of the national | ||
| PFLAG organization; established in 1994, the Austin chapter | ||
| provides assistance to area LGBTQIA+ individuals and their families | ||
| through support groups, advocacy, and educational initiatives; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Born in London and raised in Saigon, Vietnam, | ||
| Ms. Nguyen moved to Austin in 1975; when embarking on her own gender | ||
| journey, she found support with PFLAG Austin, which led her to begin | ||
| her advocacy efforts; she has been a champion for transgender women | ||
| of color, and she has fought against racism, challenges to | ||
| reproductive freedom, and policies that negatively impact members | ||
| of LGBTQIA+ communities; she is also a software engineer, as well as | ||
| a model and a fashion designer; and | ||
| WHEREAS, By defending the rights of those who are oppressed | ||
| and marginalized, Anna Nguyen is helping to build a more just and | ||
| inclusive society for all citizens of the Lone Star State, and she | ||
| may indeed take great pride in her myriad achievements; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas | ||
| Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Anna Nguyen for her | ||
| longtime advocacy in behalf of Central Texas LGBTQIA+ communities | ||
| and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success with her | ||
| important work; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. Nguyen as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
