R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort the |
|
family and friends of Robert Allen Batteaux of Houston, who passed |
|
away on February 8, 2025, at the age of 79; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Houston on July 24, 1945, Robert Batteaux |
|
was the son of Lois Ersula Jones and Robert Christopher Batteaux; he |
|
graduated in 1963 from Phillis Wheatley High School, where he |
|
distinguished himself as a talented basketball and tennis player; |
|
he subsequently attended Prairie View A&M University on an athletic |
|
scholarship and enjoyed a stellar collegiate career in tennis, |
|
placing fifth in the nation at the National Association of |
|
Intercollegiate Athletics tennis tournament and winning both |
|
singles and doubles titles in the Southwestern Athletic Conference; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Batteaux earned his bachelor's degree in |
|
elementary education in 1968; after serving his country for two |
|
years in the United States Army, he resumed his studies and obtained |
|
a master of education degree in guidance and counseling from |
|
Prairie View A&M and a master's degree in physical education from |
|
Texas Southern University; in 2010, he was inducted into Prairie |
|
View's Sports Hall of Fame and the Prairie View Interscholastic |
|
League Coaches Association Hall of Fame; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Batteaux excelled in his career as a PE teacher |
|
for the Houston Independent School District; over the years, he |
|
coached several basketball, golf, and tennis teams to district |
|
championships, and he was a positive influence in the lives of many |
|
young athletes; later in his career, he served Houston ISD's |
|
Barnett Sports Complex as director, a role in which he found great |
|
fulfillment; and |
|
WHEREAS, Beyond his work for Houston ISD, Mr. Batteaux taught |
|
physical education at Houston Community College and developed HCC's |
|
first physical education manual and Jazzercise program; he also |
|
served as the facilities and sports program coordinator for Harris |
|
County Precinct One and coordinated the annual Street Olympics |
|
program; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Batteaux enjoyed the love |
|
and support of his wife of 54 years, Patricia Davis Batteaux, and a |
|
cherished family that included his sons, Robert, Patrick, and |
|
Roderick, and his granddaughters, Brooke and Callie; and |
|
WHEREAS, A mentor and role model to countless young Texans, |
|
Robert Batteaux leaves behind a legacy that will forever remain a |
|
source of inspiration to all who knew him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Allen Batteaux |
|
and extend sincere sympathy to his family and friends; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert |
|
Batteaux. |
