| WHEREAS, Jessica Bonilla of Irving has earned great | ||
| distinction by winning the 2023 Big Tex Boot Design Contest hosted | ||
| by the State Fair of Texas; and | ||
| WHEREAS, An icon of the State Fair of Texas, the Big Tex | ||
| statue measures 55 feet tall and is outfitted with size 96 cowboy | ||
| boots that span more than 10 feet in length and weigh some 900 | ||
| pounds; over the years, the massive boots have featured artwork by a | ||
| number of different Texas artists, and Ms. Bonilla has been | ||
| selected from among more than 300 entrants to update the design; she | ||
| will work closely with the Texas State Fair and designers from | ||
| Lucchese Bootmaker to paint her artwork onto Big Tex; her winning | ||
| design depicts native plants and animals in a Texas canyon at | ||
| sunset; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ms. Bonilla is a licensed social worker, and she | ||
| holds degrees from the University of North Texas and The University | ||
| of Texas at Arlington; a gifted artist, she has displayed her work | ||
| at pop-up markets throughout North Texas; and | ||
| WHEREAS, With her success in the Big Tex Boot Design Contest, | ||
| Jessica Bonilla has demonstrated great talent and dedication in the | ||
| pursuit of her goals, and she may take justifiable pride in this | ||
| notable achievement; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby congratulate Jessica Bonilla on winning the 2023 | ||
| Big Tex Boot Design Contest and extend to her sincere best wishes | ||
| for the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. Bonilla as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
