| WHEREAS, Dr. Fred Farias III of McAllen has been elected | ||
| president of the Texas Optometric Association for the year 2014; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and | ||
| Southern College of Optometry, Dr. Farias has owned and operated | ||
| 20/20 Vision Care for 25 years; over the course of his career, he | ||
| has played an active role in professional organizations at the | ||
| local, state, and national levels; he is a fellow of the American | ||
| Optometric Association and state coordinator of the AOA | ||
| Foundation's Vision USA Committee, which works to provide | ||
| low-income, uninsured individuals and their families with free eye | ||
| health and vision care; moreover, he has served as | ||
| secretary-treasurer and as a member of the executive committee and | ||
| board of directors of the TOA and as a gubernatorial appointee to | ||
| the Texas Optometry Board; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan is the recipient of the AOA | ||
| Recognition Award and multiple TOA Presidents Awards; in addition | ||
| to contributing to his profession, he has given back to his | ||
| community as a member of the board of directors of the Vannie E. | ||
| Cook Jr. Children's Cancer and Hematology Clinic, the Rio Grande | ||
| Valley American Cancer Society, and the Rio Grande Valley Arthritis | ||
| Foundation; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Dr. Farias has demonstrated outstanding commitment | ||
| to his work, his colleagues, and his fellow citizens, and the | ||
| members of the Texas Optometric Association will indeed benefit | ||
| from the leadership and dedication he brings to his new post; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby honor the president-elect of the Texas | ||
| Optometric Association, Dr. Fred Farias III, and extend to him | ||
| sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Dr. Farias as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
