	H.R. No. 2247



	R E S O L U T I O N

	WHEREAS, A 65th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of
	mutual devotion and shared experiences, and Garrett and Barbara
	Smith of Athens celebrated this joyous milestone in their marriage
	on May 1, 2017; and
	WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Smith were joined in matrimony on that
	memorable day in 1952 at a courthouse in Dallas; over the years,
	they have been blessed with a treasured family that includes their
	three children, Wanda, Garrett, and John, as well as their four
	grandchildren, Aubrey, Jacob, Ben, and Ali, and four
	great-grandchildren, Cross, Caleb, Coby, and Annie; and
	WHEREAS, Respected members of the Athens community, the
	couple spent the first 26 years of their marriage moving frequently
	to accommodate Mr. Smith's military service with the U.S. Navy, and
	they resided in Connecticut, Virginia, California, and
	Massachusetts before returning to Texas; Mr. Smith retired from a
	second career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in
	1988, and Mrs. Smith enjoyed a notable tenure as a director for Mary
	Kay; and
	WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Smith have enjoyed six and a half
	decades of abiding love and affection for each other, and they are
	among an exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a
	lasting commitment; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
	Legislature hereby congratulate Garrett and Barbara Smith on their
	65th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for
	continued happiness; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
	prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Smith as an expression of high regard by
	the Texas House of Representatives.
