WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at | ||
the untimely death of Jaime Longoria, Jr., of Edinburg, who passed | ||
away on January 27, 2011, at the age of six; and | ||
WHEREAS, Born on October 26, 2004, to Jaime and Sary | ||
Longoria, Jaime Longoria, Jr., was soon diagnosed with an extremely | ||
serious heart condition that would necessitate five open heart | ||
surgeries, two pacemakers, and two artificial heart valves before | ||
the age of two and that would ultimately claim his young life; and | ||
WHEREAS, Jaime received a heart transplant on January 26, | ||
2006; despite remaining at high risk for infection, he took his | ||
first steps, and soon grew to enjoy taking walks, watching movies, | ||
working on the computer, playing alphabet games, and doing | ||
exercises; and | ||
WHEREAS, Since birth, Jaime Longoria was treasured by his | ||
parents, who were with him every step of the way throughout his | ||
medical journey, and he enjoyed the love and prayers of his older | ||
siblings, Kristen and Joseph, as well; also providing invaluable | ||
support to the family were Mr. Longoria's colleagues at the Texas | ||
Secretary of State, a host of caring professionals, including | ||
doctors, nurses, therapists, and church leaders, and a teacher and | ||
two coaches who spent years visiting the boy at home and teaching | ||
him exercises, letters, numbers, and basic life skills; and | ||
WHEREAS, Seeking to channel their grief into charity, members | ||
of the Longoria family are planning to host a banquet later this | ||
year to raise funds to help the siblings of children afflicted with | ||
health crises; and | ||
WHEREAS, Although it is immeasurably painful to say good-bye | ||
to one so young and full of promise, the loved ones and many friends | ||
of Jaime Longoria may find comfort in knowing that they surrounded | ||
him in the warm embrace of their affection during his time on this | ||
earth, and they will forever carry memories of this cherished child | ||
close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jaime Longoria, | ||
Jr., and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to | ||
his parents, Jaime and Sary Longoria; to his sister, Kristen | ||
Longoria; to his brother, Joseph Longoria; to his grandparents, | ||
Maria Flores and Jose and Lala Longoria; and to his other relatives | ||
and friends; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jaime | ||
Longoria, Jr. | ||
