| WHEREAS, Chief Gregory W. Rushin is celebrating 25 years of | ||
| service with the Plano Police Department in 2011; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Gregory Rushin obtained his bachelor's degree in law | ||
| enforcement administration and his master's degree in human | ||
| relations and business; a graduate of the FBI Academy, the FBI | ||
| National Academy, the Senior Management Institute for Police, and | ||
| the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar, he also | ||
| holds a certificate in public management from The University of | ||
| Texas at Dallas; and | ||
| WHEREAS, During his notable career, Chief Rushin served as a | ||
| deputy sheriff in Illinois and as an agent with the Federal Bureau | ||
| of Investigation; joining the Plano Police Department in 1986, he | ||
| was promoted to assistant chief 10 years later and to chief in 2001; | ||
| today, he oversees nearly 600 employees; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Under his able leadership, the department has helped | ||
| Plano to maintain one of the lowest crime rates in the state and | ||
| nation for municipalities of comparable size and to receive the | ||
| title of 2010 Safest City in America with a population of more than | ||
| 250,000 by Forbes magazine; in addition, his efforts have played a | ||
| vital role in improving traffic safety, enhancing the technological | ||
| capabilities of the force, and earning the department recognition | ||
| as a Flagship Agency by the Commission on Accreditation for Law | ||
| Enforcement Agencies; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Chief Rushin has contributed to his professional | ||
| community through his current role as first vice president of the | ||
| Texas Police Chiefs Association and through his previous service as | ||
| president of the North Texas Police Chiefs Association and as chair | ||
| of the North Texas High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas and the | ||
| North Texas Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory; he has also | ||
| shared his time and talents with a number of worthwhile civic | ||
| organizations, including the Rotary Club; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Chief Gregory Rushin has served and protected his | ||
| community for many years, and his exemplary record has earned him | ||
| the admiration and respect of both the public and his fellow | ||
| officers; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby honor Gregory W. Rushin for 25 years of | ||
| dedicated service to the Plano Police Department and extend to him | ||
| sincere best wishes for continued success with his important work; | ||
| and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Chief Rushin as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
