R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Hill Country Shoot-Out Barbeque sponsored by the
  Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10427 Men's Auxiliary is taking place
  October 14 and 15, 2011, in Leander; and
         WHEREAS, First held in 2005, the Hill Country Shoot-Out
  Barbeque began as a gathering of local barbecue cooks and has grown
  into a popular annual event that draws pit masters from around the
  state as they contend for the top prize in categories such as
  brisket, pork spare ribs, and chicken; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to offering good food and friendly
  competition, the Shoot-Out benefits worthwhile causes in the
  community; proceeds from past events have supported initiatives
  such as the VFW Patriot's Pen and Voice of Democracy essay contests
  and efforts to assist wounded veterans; this year's cook-off will
  serve as a fund-raiser for the post's scholarship program, which
  helps deserving Williamson County students to further their
  educations; and
         WHEREAS, Barbecue is an iconic symbol of Texas culture, and
  this occasion is certain to offer all those in attendance a fun and
  memorable experience; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the VFW Post 10427 Men's Auxiliary
  Hill Country Shoot-Out Barbeque and extend sincere best wishes to
  the event's organizers, competitors, and participants for an
  enjoyable cook-off.
