| WHEREAS, The Hill Country Shoot-Out Barbeque sponsored by the | ||
| Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10427 Men's Auxiliary is taking place | ||
| October 14 and 15, 2011, in Leander; and | ||
| WHEREAS, First held in 2005, the Hill Country Shoot-Out | ||
| Barbeque began as a gathering of local barbecue cooks and has grown | ||
| into a popular annual event that draws pit masters from around the | ||
| state as they contend for the top prize in categories such as | ||
| brisket, pork spare ribs, and chicken; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In addition to offering good food and friendly | ||
| competition, the Shoot-Out benefits worthwhile causes in the | ||
| community; proceeds from past events have supported initiatives | ||
| such as the VFW Patriot's Pen and Voice of Democracy essay contests | ||
| and efforts to assist wounded veterans; this year's cook-off will | ||
| serve as a fund-raiser for the post's scholarship program, which | ||
| helps deserving Williamson County students to further their | ||
| educations; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Barbecue is an iconic symbol of Texas culture, and | ||
| this occasion is certain to offer all those in attendance a fun and | ||
| memorable experience; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby commemorate the VFW Post 10427 Men's Auxiliary | ||
| Hill Country Shoot-Out Barbeque and extend sincere best wishes to | ||
| the event's organizers, competitors, and participants for an | ||
| enjoyable cook-off. | ||
