H.R. No. 2010

R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, James P. Monkres, Jr., was inducted into the DeSoto
Independent School District Hall of Honor at a special ceremony on
May 3, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Hall of Honor was established to pay tribute to
notable alumni of DeSoto High School and other individuals who have
excelled in their service to area schools or have made special
contributions to the district's educational mission; Jimmy Monkres
was a member of the Class of 1977, and he has gone on to distinguish
himself in his professional career as the president of the Bank of
DeSoto; and
WHEREAS, The strong assistance that Mr. Monkres and the bank
have provided to area schools has included the establishment of an
endowment fund for the district's Education Foundation; through
this initiative, more than $75,000 has been dedicated for the
support of innovative teaching practices; moreover, he encourages
bank staff to volunteer their time to benefit the school district as
well as numerous other worthwhile civic organizations and events;
and
WHEREAS, Jimmy Monkres has made a positive difference in the
lives of many students through his dedicated work in behalf of
DeSoto ISD, and in so doing, he has earned the lasting respect of
the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate James P. Monkres, Jr., on his
induction into the DeSoto Independent School District Hall of Honor
and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Monkres as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
